1/12/22 Child of the Ocean

                                                                        Child of the Ocean

Nerissa, a young beautiful dark haired woman walks along the shore to the edge of the rustling waves. Breathing in deeply she lifts her leg a few inches off the ground and steps forward. Just as the tip of her toe touches the cold salty water, Nerissa vanishes, becoming one with the ocean. Her body melts and transforms into the very same water that was before her.

Although in a different form Nerissa can still see, she can still think, she is still her own being although invisible amongst the water. In complete control of her actions, she roams the waters admiring the fish and wonders of ocean life.

Nearby a pod of dolphins passes by. Nerissa joins them, flowing alongside the pack without them even aware of her existence. A sleek dolphin passes through her patch of the ocean, but being in water form, it has no effect on her, she cannot feel anything.

Going nearer to the surface Nerissa can see the sky turning dark. She returns to the beach and as she sets foot on dryland, her water-self reforms into her beautiful human body. Walking farther up the beach she enters her small bungalow. In water form she has no sense of touch, no need to breathe, no hunger for food or thirst for…water. However as a human she needs all the necessities for life.

With the struggles of life Nerissa often considers just living forever as part of the ocean. She could be an anonymous being simply observing every corner of the ocean; never aging, never dying. Along with that comes never being seen, never having any kind of social interaction ever again. Although a child of the ocean, born of the sea, Nerissa does, as most humans do, crave those interactions. Even in her oceanlike form she can still feel loneliness, she still desires to have people around her.

Although the thought of remaining with the ocean forever comes often Nerissa never acts upon it, making the conscious choice to live out her days on land. The ocean is an escape, but the land is her home.
