2/8/22 Flower Petal

 Flower Petal

A thin coral pink flower petal drifts in the soft breeze; The wind strong enough to carry it through the air but gentle enough to allow the petal to hold its shape.

The petal is lost, ripped away from it’s brothers and sisters. So beautiful was the petal’s home. What sadness it is for the petal, being ripped away from its stem. A loss for the flower as well; Before filled with a marvelous assortment of coral petals, and now it is thinned, less full than before.

The petal floats onwards, until it reaches its resting place among soft blades of rich green grass. This is the reality for the petal now, discarded from its home and left on the ground, separated and alone.

Small footsteps run around in the swaying grass, all managing to miss the petal. One set of feet stops just in front of the petal. Curious eyes stare deeply at it. The petal is lifted and shoved into darkness.

Sitting in the dark cloth holding place, the petal sits, now alone and restricted from the shining sun, the feel of the breeze, the hope of water.

Emerging from the darkness, the crumpled and slightly withered petal is set gently onto a hard surface. A single drop of water is placed on the petal. At first it sits, like a clear jiggly bead, before it absorbs into the petal.

The moisture returns and the petal’s wrinkles slowly disappear. It has found a new home. A less suitable environment than before but a home nonetheless. A place where it will be cared for before it shrivels up and the coral pink turns to an ugly brown, and a place where it will be admired and enjoyed, even if only for a short time.
