Defenestration of Truth
“Truth, are you serious? Do you know how dangerous that is?”
“Yes Michelle but I need to know. I have been in this house for twelve years, looking out this window everyday, and wondering what it would be like to fall out of it,” Truth sternly responded.
“Your room is on the second floor of your house, that is such a long fall. It is basically guaranteed you will get hurt,” Michelle explained, trying to talk her friend out of this ridiculous idea.
“I know that, and I will deal with that when I get there, but I just need to do this. What if there was ever a fire? And I need to jump out the window? I would have to find a way to survive then right? I might as well practice in case of an emergency.”
Michelle took a deep breath, about to speak, but held it back, seeing the slim logic in her friend's argument. “If I help throw you out of this window, promise you won't hate me? No matter what happens?”
“Michelle we have been best friends for seven years, I promise I won’t hate you. Besides, I’m the one asking you to do it so if I get hurt it’s my own fault.”
“You mean when you get hurt. There is no way you come out of this with no injuries.” Michelle grows more serious, “You aren’t trying to kill yourself right?” She asks sincerely.
“No, I promise I’m not. It’s hard to explain but I just really need to know what it feels like to fall out of this window. Now are you going to help me or not?”
Michelle sighs, “Alright.”
Truth opens the window and pops out the screen. Michelle helps lift her up to where she is sitting on the window sill, legs dangling out of the house.
“You ready?” Michelle asks. Truth hesitantly nods, looking down at the grass below. “Three…two…one…” Michelle gently pushes Truth hard enough so she slides off the sill and down towards the ground.
As she is falling, Truth quickly turns to her back, aiming to land on her shoulders and roll. She hits the ground hard but alleviates most of the pain by rolling out of the fall. She lays down in the grass, in pain, but satisfied with the result.
Michelle quickly runs outside and around the house to check on her friend, “TRUTH! Are you ok?” She yells, seeing her friend lying motionless on the floor.
“Yeah, I’m definitely going to be sore for a while, but I don’t think anything is broken,” Truth responds hoarsely.
“Can you get up?”
“Um, one moment.” Truth takes a deep breath and tries to get off the ground. Her back and shoulders ache as she lifts her torso off the grass. As she tries to push herself up, her arms collapse, her shoulders not able to bear a lot of pressure. Michelle jumps in and helps lift her up. The two girls begin to walk inside, Michelle heavily helping Truth along the way.
“Are you satisfied now?”
“Yes.”
“And you are never going to do that again?”
“Not unless it’s an emergency.”
“Good,” Michelle says as they reach the front door and head inside.
