 Forgotten Memories (Part 3)

Now outside once again, the man turns and grabs the doorknob. The memory of the tear falling onto his hand replays in his mind again. Knowing that the memories trigger by specific visuals, he starts to slowly walk backwards away from the door.

Before he gets far, a neighbor man in an orange shirt walks over to him, “Hey Jeremy, are you alright?” A memory flashes of the same man in the same shirt, The neighbor walks over seeing the tears in his eyes, “Hey Jeremy, you alright?” Jeremy sniffles and nods. The memory ends.

“Jeremy,” he says to himself slowly.

“Yeah that’s you, unless you changed your name or something,” the neighbor says with a chuckle.

“Name?” Jeremy asks.

The smile from the neighbor's joke quickly fades, “Yeah, you, your name, Jeremy,” the

neighbor says pointing towards him. “Are you feeling ok? Do you need to see a doctor or something?” the neighbor asks with genuine concern.

Not knowing how to respond, Jeremy stays silent and walks away, returning to his mission of finding more memories.

“Hey Jeremy! Hey man, what happened to you last night,” the neighbor says running towards him. A memory flashes through Jeremy’s mind.
“Are you sure? You look like crap man, what happened to you?” The neighbor responds, not buying Jeremy’s little nod.

“Thanks a lot Dave,” Jeremy responds with a huff, “And I’m fine, it was just a party.”

The neighbor snickers, “Some party.”

“Party?” Jeremy says confused, not even knowing what a party was.

“Yeah, last night when you came home I asked if you were alright and you told me you had been to a party.” Dave looks for some sort of response but gets nothing. “Jeremy, I don’t know what’s going on but I think you got really messed up at that party last night. I’m going to call 911 and get you some help.”

“9-1-1?” Jeremy sounds out the numbers slowly.

“Yes,” Dave responds, mimicking the slowness of Jeremy’s voice. Dave pulls out his phone and dials 911.

“911, what’s your emergency?” the operator asks.

“Hi, I found my neighbor outside and he seems really out of it. He doesn’t seem to know how to speak or know what anything is really.” Dave explains. Jeremy stares curiously at Dave.

“Alright can I have your current location sir?”

“872 SW Featherly street.”

“Thank you, and is your neighbor conscious?” The operator asks calmly.

“Yes, he seems fine other than his memory seems to be completely gone.”

“Ok, and sir can I get your name and the name of your neighbor please?”

“My name is Dave Howard, and my neighbor is Jeremy Paine.”

“Thank you sir, an ambulance has been dispatched and should be there shortly.”

“Thank you. Do I need to stay on the line with you until they get here?”

“From what you have told me, that is not necessary but if you would like to then yes you may stay on the line.” The dispatcher explains.

“Oh ok, I don’t think that is needed so I will just hang up.”

“That is perfectly fine sir.”

Dave hangs up his phone and waits for the ambulance. He looks at Jeremy who is still looking at him very confused. “Help is on the way man.”

“Help,” Jeremy quietly says to himself.
