Waterfall to an Unknown World (Part 3)
It had been days, or maybe hours, I wasn’t sure anymore. With no sky, no sun nor moon, just the constant shine of the water, time was hard to tell. I slept and woke up and slept and woke up. Occasionally I would get water from the river, just to keep myself alive. The hunger was fine for a while but grew worse with time. Needing something to satiate my hunger, I began to eat the grass, not knowing if any other plant would kill me.
I became like an animal down there, a cow grazing in a pasture, sipping from the nearest stream. There was nothing I could do, nowhere I could go. I had explored the whole area and there was nothing but grassland and river. The only feasible way out of here was through the waterfall, but how could I, half starved and broken down, swim up a roaring waterfall?
All my hope had faded, I thought there was no way, but I was wrong. No I could not swim up it with the mighty water pouring downwards, but what if it was going up?
As I sat against the tree I had dubbed as my home, drifting in and out of sleep, a mist started to form, filling the floor of the cavern. I watched it creep from the back of the area towards the waterfall. Once it hit, the water seemed to stand still, no longer in motion, hovering in the air. Then, the flow of the water changed. The river began to flow towards the waterfall instead of away, and the waterfall itself was going up.
I laughed hysterically as I ran to the river and dove in. The water carried me to the upflow of water. Although now fighting gravity, the water was still strong and carried me upwards, back to the tunnels. I held my breath as it pulled me in. Before I had entered these tunnels with fear, but now I had entered with joy, knowing this was my escape, this miracle of nature was taking me home.
From the surface a large spout of water emerged from the original waterfall, and out with it came me. I was launched into the air then landed back into the crystal clear pool of water. After being trapped underground, the beauty of this landscape was multiplied tenfold. Every flower was more vibrant, the sun shone brighter than ever.
My dream had turned into a nightmare, but I was awake now, I was alive.
