Star Scroll
“What is this?” he asked, gazing at the rolled up paper in front of him. The paper was old and worn, bound by a leather string.
“I don’t know,” she said, “You should open it.”
He carefully untied the string and started unrolling the scroll. On it was nothing but stars, all over the page, leaving only tiny gaps of white. Most of the stars were overlapping, forming their own patterns on the page.
“A star scroll!” she excitedly cheered.
“What’s a star scroll?” he asked, confused.
“Well it’s like a treasure map, except you can only read it if it’s pointed at the stars. And it has to be held against a certain patch of stars or else the map won’t make sense and will lead you to the wrong place.”
“So it’s useless to us?”
“Basically, but it is still a very cool find. And maybe one day someone will figure it out and find the treasure that the owner of this scroll hid.”
“We could try and find it,” he suggested. “I mean we are the ones that found the scroll. Imagine what treasures it could unlock.”
“That could take forever, you would do that with me?”
“We are archaeologists aren’t we? This is what we do, what we live for.”
She smiles, “I would love and try to find the treasure of the star scroll with you. Even if it takes the rest of our working lives.”
“Well then, let’s get started,” he says, holding the map up to the night sky.
