When the Snow Didn’t Stop

Everything was fine that winter, totally normal. The fall leaves fell, their colors browned. Chills became more frequent in the air. Then the snow hit. It was fine at first. Children were excited, catching snowflakes on their tongues, building snowmen and having snowball fights, but then, it just kept snowing, and it wouldn’t stop.

Six inches became six feet. People long since gave up measuring after the snow had gone all the way up to the tops of the tallest trees. It was pointless to measure anymore, there was simply too much.

Civilization survived though, under all the snow. Life was confined to only the sturdiest of buildings that could withstand the extreme weight of the snow. Fortifications were quickly put up to make these structures even stronger.

Life was different under the snow. A tunnel system came about so people from different buildings could visit each other. Many indoor gardens with artificial lights were set up. Sunlight was a thing of the past, and cold was the new normal. But the human race survived, they adapted.
