1/4/22 My Barn

 My Barn

Whenever I can’t handle the problems of the world I close my eyes and travel to my barn.

When I open my eyes I find myself sitting on a wooden floor, hay and dirt scattered around. To my left and right wooden stalls, but there are no animals. A narrow wooden staircase leads up to a loft that overlooks the main space of the barn. I love to sit in the loft and think for a while. After resting for a short while in the barn it is time to go outside. I run back downstairs and push open the large barn doors.

In front of me is a vast field of golden wheat, swaying back and forth in the breeze. I run through the field, arms stretched wide, feeling the wheat flick my fingertips as I go. I stop and lay down, surrounded by the wheat. I look into the clear blue sky. The sun feels warm on my face. I am calm, I am happy, I am at peace.

I arise and walk past the wheat field onto soft green grass. In the center of the grassy clearing is a two storied stone fountain. Foliage lightly grows on it, covering the beautiful markings carved in the stone. I hop into the flowing water and splash around. I run my hands quickly through the water, feeling flow against my body. I cup my hands and throw the water in the air. The droplets fall creating a thousand ripples in the water.

I stand in the cool water, taking in a deep breath of fresh air. I look to the sky in wonder. Suddenly I am weightless. I lift into the air flying all around, flipping and twirling as I please. I laugh at the pure joy that fills me. Nothing holds me back as I fly all around. In the air, happy as I can be, I turn and look at the giant red barn behind me. A soft smile covers my face.

I return to the ground and walk back to my barn. I take one last deep breath as I exit through a smaller door in the back of the barn. I love my barn but I know I can’t stay there forever.

The End
