2/10/22 Silence

 Silence

Sitting in silence, he could hear everything. The noise was too loud before, he had been missing it all. He listened to the wonderful nothingness, the void of sound. It was all so clear to him now.

He realized that although people think they need to fill the air with sound, that silence is more natural, how the world is meant to be. The art of music was nothing to him now, all he wanted was that serene noiseless tune.

Going about his daily life he struggled to pick out the silence amongst the noise. Everyone, everything, everywhere, it was all so loud. He reveled in the small moments where nothing made noise, all there was, was silence.

In his times of complete silence, his own noises would bother him; a breath too loud, the rumbling of his stomach, all things out of his control. It was so frustrating to him, he had found this serenity but could never enjoy it for long, there was always noise…always.

He was desperate for that silence, he craved it, he wanted it always, but his breath, the world outside his quiet room, would always interject his moments of peace. Listening to all the tiny noises he knew what he had to do. He took in a deep breath and held it. Perfect silence, no distractions, this is what he always wanted.

He silently rejoiced in the peacefulness as his lungs began to quiver. A battle in his mind began. Keep the silence, or break it to take another breath? He pondered if the silence was worth it. Keeping the breath in would mean eternal silence, but he would never be able to enjoy it like this again.

Slowly letting out his breath he decided that he would rather break the silence for just a moment rather than possibly lose it forever.
