2/6/22 The Paulwick Pirate (Part 9)

 The Paulwick Pirate (Part 9)

Flint and Leona make their way to the alley and are greeted by a few crewmembers. Two hours pass and the last of the men trickle in.

As the last man joins the group he asks, slightly out of breath, “So Captain, what’s the plan?”

Flint gets a devilish smile, “Men, we have been wronged by our King and I believe it is time to rebel.” Leona and the men look at Flint confused. “We are going to steal back our ship and take it where we please.”

The largest smile spreads on Leona’s face, “Pirates! You’re going to be pirates!” She giddily claps.

The men stay silent, “Yes, we are going to be Pirates,” Flint looks to the crew, “If any of you would like to stay behind and take your chances here, you are free to do so.”

A smile spreads across the crew, one man in front speaks up, “I think I speak for all of us when I say this. We are with you Captain.”

“Well then, let’s go steal a ship!” The crew and Leona quietly cheer. “We will need to be quick. We will sneak our way as close as we can to the Paulwick then emerge from the shadows with one big charge and take our ship. Once aboard I want everyone at their posts on the double, we will need to leave and get distance from England as quickly as possible so we can’t be followed,” Flint orders. The men nod. “Let’s go boys.”

Leona, the Captain and the crew casually make their way to the Paulwick, keeping their heads held low and staying in the shadows whenever possible. The ship is in sight. The Captain looks around to everyone, making sure everyone is ready.

“NOW!” he screams. The crew pushes past people and runs towards the boat. They quickly board as guards come chasing after them. A small group of men quickly take them out before untying the ship from the dock. They hop aboard and the Paulwick set’s sail.

Captain Flint stands at the side of his ship facing the dock, “THIS WILL TEACH YOU, NEVER MESS WITH THE PAULWICK PIRATES!” he loudly proclaims to the guards.

A few days on the open sea and Captain Flint invites Leona into his cabin. On the small table is a bottle of rum and two glasses. “This is much more like it, Captain,” Leona says, eyeing the rum.

“Now that this is a pirate ship, I don’t have those pesky standards to hold anymore,” Flint says. He stands up and pours a small amount into the two cups and hands one to Leona.

She gladly takes the cup. Flint sits back in his chair and Leona walks around the table and sits down in Flint’s lap. She raises her glass into the air, “To new adventures Captain,” she says with a wink.

Flint smiles and raises his glass, “To new adventures,” he says, clinking his glass to hers. The two down their drinks as the ship sails freely on the open ocean.
