 The Apple Tree

She was stuck, she couldn’t move, her many feet rooted in the ground to forever stay in place. She didn’t need to move though, everything she needed was provided to her right where she stood. Her food came from the ground and her water from the sky.

Every now and then a kind human would come along and help her as she grew, ensuring nothing was in her way. The human would fend off harmful plants, keeping them from latching onto her and slowly sucking the life out of her.

She would grow for many years, through many seasons and all types of weather. She was meant to be big and thus she was strong and could survive it all. In the cold winters she lay dormant, taking on the harsh winter's snow. Her life began to return in the spring, as she blossomed into her true glory. Like this she would stay throughout the summer, bearing fruit for her kind human. When fall would hit, she began to change, her colors would shift beautifully to fit the season before once again being bare for the cold winter.

Although forever stationary, her life brought joy to others. From the beauty of her form to the sweetness of her fruit; from the shade she provided to the delightful scent in the air, nothing could compare.

The kind human would often find themselves gently caressing her, like she was no different from them. It was truly an unexplainable connection. However strange, the connection was strong. Even when her kind human passed away, the connection stayed as they buried the kind human in the same soil, the same earth where she stood.

She would live on and see many generations come and go, new families come in and out, all of them unknowingly connected by the beautiful apple tree that lived in the earth outside of their home.
