 Frozen Grass

Sarah walked through the park as she always did on Saturday afternoons. Everything was normal as she strolled along the concrete path, enjoying the fresh air. As the wind blew, the grass fluttered back and forth, dancing with the air. Sarah always loved watching the grass dance. She would stare at the ground as she walked, simply enjoying the moving green blades.

Sarah would never focus on any one piece of grass, but the field as a whole. Her mind was able to wander aimlessly as her eyes shot around the calming green grass. One patch of grass however managed to draw her full attention. As the wind picked up and began to blow harder, all the grass shook more vigorously…except for one patch.

This small area of grass stood straight up, stiff as stones. No matter how hard the wind blew, the grass would not budge. Sarah stopped her walk and bent down to examine the grass more closely. She moved her hand towards the stiff blades and touched them. As quickly as her fingers made contact, she pulled them away. The grass was cold as ice, frozen in place.

‘Why is this grass frozen when all the other grass is fine?’ she thought to herself. She continued to stare at the frozen grass, greatly confused by this strange phenomenon. After a few minutes the grass suddenly went limp and began to sway back and forth in the wind, just like all the other grass in the park.

Startled by the sudden change, Sarah once again moved her hand to touch the grass. It was normal once again, with no trace of ice, and no indication of melted water. She could not explain it, she had never heard of anything like this happening before.

After watching the previously frozen patch for a few more minutes, she saw no further change. Sarah stood back up and continued her walk, her mind now consumed by the mystery of the frozen grass.
