 Rutabaga

“Awww look at this cute caterpillar plushie!” Anne squealed.

“Oh my gosh it’s so cute!” Constance replied back, matching Anne’s enthusiasm.

Anne looks at the tag clipped to his little nubby antenna. “It looks like his name is… Rudda bugga?” she says, unsure if she is pronouncing it right.

“Awe that's a cute name,” Constance replies, ignoring her friend’s uncertainty.

“Do you want to feel him, he’s really soft.”

Constance grabs the little caterpillar plush and squishes it, feeling the soft silky texture of the fir. “Oh dang, he is really soft.” Constance looks at the tag. She skims the small writing and comes to the name. She squints her eyes then looks to Anne, “His name is Rutabaga. What the heck were you talking about Rudda Bugga,” she says jokingly.

Anne grabs the plushie from Constance’s grasp and re-reads the tag. She begins to laugh, “I thought I was reading the A wrong.” The two girls laugh together. “I like Rudda Bugga better,” Anne declares.

“Well he is yours now, so you can call him whatever you want.”
