 A Trip Down the Hall

She stood in the hallway and looked at the ominous door, shut at the end of the hall. Her head was like lead, pulling her in so many different directions. She couldn’t think of anything to do so there she stood, looking at the door.

The longer she stared, more distortion came to her surroundings. The door began to move back and forth, as if a wave was pushing it. The hall would grow longer and then shrink, bringing the door closer and farther from her. 

For a moment the hallway looked normal, the back and forth movements had stopped. The normality was soon broken by a whole new anomaly. The walls became like putty and started to twist. Her legs became shaky as she stumbled around. She was prepared to turn upside down with the twisting hall but it never happened, in her eyes, the whole hall twisted around her.

She quickly blinked, hoping it would make the illusion fade but it persisted. The twisted hall spun back to its original state and once again the hallway was normal. ‘What’s next?’ She thought to herself, not excited for the next part of this experience.

The light coming from behind her started to dim and the darkness slowly filled the hallway. The walls became pitch black until all that could be seen was the door. Its white frame shone bright in the darkness. 

She wanted to walk towards it, knowing there was just a normal room behind it, but her feet would not move. Her head felt so heavy, it weighed down on her body, not allowing any movement.

The darkness quickly switched to a brighter light than had ever illuminated the hall. She squinted, no longer able to look at the door, or anything. Then, yet again, the lighting changed back to normal and there she was, staring at her normal hall.

The weight in her head grew heavier and heavier. She didn’t know why this was happening and just wanted it to go away. Eventually her body gave out under the weight spiraling in her head. She collapsed to the floor, closing her eyes for a most needed sleep.

  The Hypno-Toilet You stare at the toilet water as it spins round and round. All sense of time is gone as you are mesmerized by the swirl. It is not very fast or harsh, just a steady flow of circling water. The soft swishing noises are so calming and all you can do is stand and stare. A loud buzzing noise, tries desperately to alarm you of the damage being caused to the septic tank. Slowly the tank fills up higher and higher with the wasted toilet water. You cannot hear the alarm, you are too entranced by the water in the bowl.  As the water level rises in the underground tank, the alarm continues to blare. The little pump works as hard as it can, but without your help, it is helpless. The thought of leaving the bathroom hasn’t even crossed your mind. All that flows through your brain is the soft swirling water.  The toilet water consumes your thoughts, nothing else matters to you anymore, only the water. 12/25/22 Paper Floor

  Paper Floor Boxes, bags, and wrapping paper were scattered across the floor. It was hard to step on just the carpet without getting some form of paper on your foot. It seemed like the floor was completely covered and the mess would be impossible to clean.  The next day the mess stayed, no one cleaning it up. The day after that and the day after that, nothing was done about it. The carpet was no more, it was just trampled wrapping paper and squished bags. Years passed, they forgot what the carpet even looked like in the living room. They had grown so accustomed to the paper, it just felt right now. They didn’t miss the carpet and didn’t mind the mess, and so the wrapping paper stayed, on the floor, forever. The End 12/25/22

9/22/22 We the Dreamers

  We the Dreamers We the dreamers, we the inventors, we the artists, we who wish for something more than what we already have, we create. Sometimes our creations are logical and possible. But other times we delve into the impossible, the dreams we wish would come true.  Anything can come from nothing if you dream hard enough. Everything already came from nothing, first there was nothing, and then there was everything. We continue on to make everything, even things that don’t exist.  The physical creations and the theoretical dreams alike, leave us striving for greatness. It makes us want to be better than we are, more than we can be, even if it is just a dream. Our brains are powerful, wonderful, amazing devices that let us learn and explore and create. To create, be original, discover or come up with something new, that is what we do. We the dreamers make the world a more interesting place. The End 9/22/22
