 Forgotten Memories (Part 5)

Jeremy sits quietly in the back of the ambulance and he is driven to the hospital. He jolts slightly with each bump on the road. The medics all stare at him, not sure of what to ask, not sure if they would get a reply. The woman from before decides to try again at getting some answers from him.

“Sir?” she asks. No response. “Jeremy?” she asks again. Jeremy looks her way in acknowledgement. “Jeremy, do you remember anything about the party you were at? Do you know where you were? Were you with anyone? A friend?” Her last word triggers another memory.

“Jeremy!” a blonde man calls from across the room. “Hey man, this is my new friend Raina, she has been looking you up and down all night and wants to get to know you better soooo, Raina, this is Jeremy. Jeremy, Raina.” The two stare awkwardly at each other, “Alright, I’ll let you two be, don’t get too crazy now,” the man says with a wink as he returns into the crowd of dancing people.

Jeremy blinks rapidly as the memory passes, “Raina,” he says.

“Raina?” The medic says slightly confused. “Is that a friend of yours?”

“New friend,” Jeremy says, copying the man's words in his memory.

“Ah, a new friend. Did you meet Raina at the party?”

Not understanding her question Jeremy stares blankly at her. He begins to wish he understood. He felt so left out of everything.

The medic begins to understand his limited vocabulary. “Alright Jeremy, at the party, with Raina,” she has captivated his attention so far, “Were you at a bar? A nightclub? Was there dancing?” She hoped so hard that he would understand one of these new words. Jeremy began to blink rapidly again.

“I’ve never really been good at dancing, that’s why I like these big crowds, I can just blend in and no one notices my awful dancing skills,” Jeremy says to Raina.

She giggles covering her mouth with her long black sleeve. “I think you dance just fine,” Jeremy smiles, “for a nightclub at least.”

Jeremy snaps back, “Dancing, nightclub, Raina.”

Excited by the response, the medic continues, “Do you know the name of the nightclub?” she asks slowly.

“Name,” Jeremy says, thinking as hard as he could. He had put together that his name was Jeremy and was beginning to understand the word.

The ambulance stops as it has arrived at the hospital. The medic is almost frustrated, knowing the progress she was making and that it would now come to an end.
