 Escape (Part 3)

“Well, here we are,” Len says as the two arrive at a small stone cottage. In the distance are other houses of similar design. “Welcome to the small village of Kori.”

“It’s lovely, so close to others,” Ora says with a smile on her face, wishing she had that kind of protection.

“Yeah, we are a pretty tight knit community around here, always looking out for each other. Only way to survive out here.”

“I wish I had neighbors like that, or any neighbors at all,” Ora stares off into the distance, imagining her lonely cottage on the lake. “My home is very secluded, which is nice for a family, but once you’re all alone out there…”

“I understand,” Len said gently. They both stand quietly for a moment. “How about we go inside and get you some food and rest huh?”

“That sounds nice.”

The two walk inside the small cottage, “I’ll get us a fire going,” Len says, walking to the fireplace and grabbing some logs off a pile stacked against the wall. Ora spots a table with wooden chairs around it and goes to sit down. “It’s not anything fancy, but it’s home,” Len says as he lights the fire.

“Doesn’t need to be fancy. My little cottage was about the same as this one.”

Len walked over to some cupboards and pulled out two small plates and loaded them with cheese and bread. He placed the plates on the wooden table before sitting down opposite Ora.

“My room is just back there,” Len said pointing to the only other door in the cottage besides the main entrance, “If you’d like to stay in there you can, I have a mat I can drag out here to sleep on.”

“Alright, as long as you’ll be ok with that.”

“Of course, don’t feel too bad. Besides, I’m closer to the fire out here,” Len jokes. The two finish their quaint meal before retiring to their respective sleeping areas. Len stops Ora for a moment before she enters the room, “Don’t worry about anyone banging on the walls, if they follow you here, I’ll make sure they go away real quick.”

Ora smiles, “Thank you Len, goodnight.”

“Goodnight Ora, sleep well. You are safe here.”
