The Patient Wind
The wind wanted her, but could not have her as she was. From the moment she came into this world it longed for her, with a passionate urge driving it towards her, it needed to have her.
The wind knew as long as she was bound to the ground, the two could never be one, but the wind would never give up, it would find a way to have her forever. No matter how long it took, the wind did not care, it was patient, having been there for so long, time was of no concern.
As the years passed by, the wind followed the girl wherever she went, brushing her with gusts of wind meant only for her. She was often confused why the wind only blew on her, avoiding everyone around her. ‘Did she have some sort of magnet, drawing the wind closer to herself and away from others?’ she would think to herself.
The wind’s wait eventually came to an end, the time had come, now was the wind’s chance. As the woman climbed the side of a mountain she stopped, looking over a cliff, admiring the valley below. The wind summoned a large gust, targeted just at her, but for the wind’s plan to work, there needed to be witnesses.
A young couple hiked up the trail and were about to pass the woman. This was the wind’s time to strike. Just as the two hikers came to the overlook where the woman stood, the wind sent a large gust, taking away the woman’s balance, sending her tumbling down the cliff. As one of the hikers screamed in horror the other managed to call for her, although they both knew the woman could not be saved.
After the woman’s body was found, it was given to her parents who had her body cremated. As much as the woman loved to climb in the mountains, her heart was always with the ocean. Her memorial service was held on a beach, attended by friends and various family members.
At the end of the service, her father solemnly took her ashes to the small waves crashing on the beach. “Goodbye my beloved daughter,” he said as he opened the bag and started dumping out the ashes.
It had all gone to plan, this is what the wind had wanted all along. It formed a small tornado above the ashes, sucking them upwards, keeping them from the ocean's grasp. No longer bound by land, the wind took her. Her ashes rose to the sky, finally united with the wind.
The End
