8/3/22 Voices (Part 1)

 Voices (Part 1)

“Help us!” he hears a childlike voice call out in his mind. He quickly whips his head around, looking for the source of the voice. “HELP US!” the sweet voice calls louder.

“Where are you?” the man calls out, “How do I help you?”

“Please help us,” the voice says softly.

A tear forms in the man’s eye, the voice sounds so scared, so hopeless. In his soul he can feel the desperation, the need for help. He deeply scans the area but still cannot find anything.

“I want to help you but I don’t know where you are.”

“We are not seen,” a new voice says, still soft and childlike, but very different from the first.

“How am I supposed to help you if I can’t see you?” the man asks, very confused.

“We will guide you,” he hears many voices say at once.

He is startled for a moment, “How many of you are there?”

“We are many,” the second voice says.

“Close your eyes and follow our music,” a third child’s voice instructs.

He shuts his eyes. In the man’s head he hears the humming of the children. Trusting these unseen voices, he begins to walk, not caring about any objects that may be in his path. He follows the humming in his head, going whichever way makes the sound louder.

As the humming grows significantly louder, the first voice calls out among the music, “You are almost there.” The noise is almost unbearable, the man covers his ears although it is pointless.

Just as he feels his ears are about to burst the humming disappears, “STOP!” the children yell.

“Open your eyes,” the third voice says.

In front of the man is a strange glowing fog. It hurts his eyes, it feels wrong, like it shouldn’t be there.
