 Cascada (Part 5)

The ride is silent except for the humming of the engine. Cascada leans her head against the window, watching the city pass by. ‘So different, so interesting.’ Finally the bus reaches Laura’s stop. She stands up and Cascada follows her out of the bus and onto the street. The walk to Laura’s home isn’t far as it only takes the two a matter of minutes to  reach her front door. Fumbling with her purse Laura finds her keys and unlocks her door, opening it and motioning for Cascada to walk in.

“So, this long story of yours, tell me about it,” Laura says, hanging up her purse, “Tell me about this place that isn’t around here but is full of Cascada’s, and how you somehow ended up in this little city of mine.”

After the calming bus ride, giving her time to just breathe and accept her situation, she throws all her nerves to the wind, and the confidence that killed two policemen returns. “Would you like me to put it bluntly?”

Laura is a bit thrown back by this shift in attitude but is curious nonetheless, “Sure, I guess.”

“I am not from this planet. I am from the planet Hyja.”

“You’re an Alien? I guess that explains the clothes, I just thought you were some sort of performer or something.” Cascada gives Laura a confused look, “Sorry, please go on.”

“Like I told you, I have no idea how I got to this city, as one moment I was on my homeworld and the next thing I knew, I was in that dastardly farmers field,” Cascada says with disgust.

“Oh, bad first encounter huh?”

“Terribly. Because of that man I accidentally killed two of your people.” Cascada notices Laura’s eyes go wide with a sudden fear. “I didn’t mean to, I was just trying to defend myself. I was unaware how fragile your bodies were. I don’t want to hurt anybody, I just want to get home.”

Laura takes a few deep breaths, hearing the sincerity of Cascada’s words, “I believe you,” she says with a large gulp. “Do you have any idea how to get back to your home?”

“Well I was hoping your world might have some sort of vessel capable of space travel, or maybe long range communications of some kind?”

“Space travel yes but probably not as far as you need to go, same with the communications.”

“Have your people never communicated with other alien races before?”

“No, you are the first alien we have ever encountered, as far as the general public is aware. A majority of our race believes we are the only living beings in the universe.”

“How small minded. Well I can assure you that you are not. Sadly that does not bode well for me.”

“Hey, you’ll get home.”

“How?”

“I don’t know, but you will,” Laura says with a comforting smile.
