Mighty Hand
“I shall defeat thee foul beast,” the knight shouts to the monster snarling in front of him. He reaches for his sword and grabs for the handle. In his grip he expects to feel the solid metal of his blade, but instead feels a softness. “Wha…what is this?” The knight pulls from his sheath a stuffed light brown hand, connected to a long thin arm. The knight turns furiously, “SQUIRE! Where is my sword?!”
In a fit of laughter that he desperately tries to contain, the squire responds, “I don’t know what you’re talking about my liege, it is in your hand.”
“THIS,” the knight swings the stuffed toy around. As he does a squeaking noise comes from within, bringing the squire to tears of laughter. “This is not my sword, it is a child's play toy.”
“No my liege, tis your sword that you have used many a time to slay vicious beasts.” The squire tries his hardest to sound serious but the knight is not amused.
The beast lunges towards the knight. He quickly dodges out of the way then turns back to his squire with fire in his eyes, “If I had my sword in hand I would surely kill you with it squire!”
“Watch out my liege!” the squire yells as the knight dodges yet another attack. “Use your sword, give the beast a good sl-” he holds back a fit of laughter, “A good slap in the face. With your mighty hand, I mean sword, you shall conquer this monster my liege, I am sure of it,” the squire says in a sarcastically uplifting manner.
The knight ignores his squire and turns to the beast, brown plush squeaky toy in hand. He charges the beast and swings the hand, as it makes impact with the creature the hand releases a loud squeak. The beast quickly turns its head towards the hand, curious by the noise. It no longer seems to care about the knight, only about the hand.
The knight notices the beast's actions and squeaks the hand again, entracing the creature even more. Thinking quickly the night begins to run towards a nearby cliff, “Come and get it!” he yells, squeaking the toy as he goes. The beast charges after him, determined to take the plush hand from the night.
After a plethora of squeaks the knight reaches the cliff side and tosses the toy over the cliff. Without a second thought, the beast follows, catching the toy in its jaws as it falls to the rocky land below.
The knight releases a loud breath of relief before returning to his squire, who is once again holding back a fit of laughter. The knight charges his squire and grabs him by the shoulders, “I should kill you where you stand.”
“No my liege wait, be pleased with me.” The knight stares angrily at the squire. “I found your sword,” he says with a smile.
The knight looks to the ground and sees his blade lying among the dirt. He drops the squire and picks up the sword.
“You were able to vanquish the beast, yes?” the squire asks.
The knight squints his eyes in annoyance, “Yes,” he says quietly.
“Then my job is well done…And very enjoyable this day.”
“Take that stupid grin off your face or I will take it off for you.”
“Yes my liege,” the squire says, immediately returning to a serious tone. As the knight walks ahead of him, back to their kingdom, the squire’s smile returns to his face.
