11/2/22 The Pinecone Council
The Pinecone Council
The pinecone council gathered around the heating rock. Like four benches around a fire, the pinecones laid down, resting, being heated by the warmth emanating from the rock. In the morning the pinecone council would hold their yearly meeting, deciding upon important things for the entirety of the pinecone people.
It was their tradition, to rest a night by the great rock before meeting in the morning. It showed trust between the four council members. If all the members were alive the next morning, they would know the council is sound with no deviants hidden among them.
This ancient gathering of the pinecone council has always gone unnoticed by the humans. To them, all they see is four pinecones around a rock. They may think they had been placed by someone else, but never paid it much thought. The entire pinecone race had gone unnoticed by humans, and they intended to keep it that way.
So the council cones slept around the naturally warming rock. None were worried about another member betraying them. This particular council had been together for decades. Their minds were practically one and they held the utmost trust and respect for one another. No jealous, angry, murderous pinecones were left on the council, they had all been whittled out and replaced with trustworthy cones who wanted what was best for the pinecone race.
As the sun rose, the council woke and began their meeting. All on different sides of the heating stone, but perfectly united.
The End
