 Longing for Freedom (Part 3)

“And who might you be?” the guard asks.

“Someone who doesn’t like their time wasted with stupid question,” Reman pulls out his sword from its sheath and points it to the guard, “Now open the gate.”

“I’m sorry but I cannot allow you entrance unless you are expected by the Baron, and because I don’t know who you are, I cannot confirm if the Baron is-” The guard is cut off as Reman impales him with his sword, directly in the chest. The guard clutches at his wound before falling to his knees.

Jorn stares in horror at the guard, “You killed him,” he whispers quietly, but Reman still hears.

“Quiet slave! Or you’ll be next,” Reman says as he pulls the switch to open the gate.

Jorn’s heart races quickly, he needs to be free of this hideous murderer. Before Reman can  put his sword back in its sheath, Jorn manages to grab it with his hands still bound, and cuts the belt that holds his chains. He is free from his slavemaster. Quickly he runs with Reman not too far behind in fast pursuit.

“Come back here slave! You will be punished for this!” Reman yells, but Jorn is too fast, being a younger man and more agile than himself.

Running through crowds while still trying to stay inconspicuous, Jorn manages to duck into a dark alleyway. His breaths are heavy as he hides in the shadows. Loud footsteps and the grumbles of Reman tell Jorn that his slavemaster is near. He curls up as tight as he can in the darkest corner hoping not to be seen, but his hiding spot is a failure.

Reman walks down that same alley, eyes squinted looking for his slave. Jorn looks up and sees Reman approaching, knowing his cover is blown. He begins to tremble in fear. Jorn inhales deeply as he looks up at his slavemaster.

“Shhh, my magic can’t cover sound,” a woman whispers to him quietly.
