Forgotten Memories (Part 4)
Sirens blare as the ambulance pulls around the cul-de-sac and stops next to Jeremy and Dave. Jeremy stares at the flashing lights in awe, mesmerized by the colors. A memory flashes. He is in a room surrounded by lots of people. They are all dancing as flashing lights move around the room. He is dancing with them next to a girl with a tight black dress with long flowing sleeves.
“Sir, SIR? Hello? Can you hear me sir?” the medic asks.
“Hey Jeremy you there?” Dave says, snapping his fingers in Jeremy’s face.
Jeremy rapidly blinks as the memory passes. He stares blankly at the woman in front of him, shining a light in his face.
The medic turns to Dave, “Has he spoken to you at all?”
“Very little, only one word answers, and it was always words that I had said, like he was copying me, trying to learn the language.”
“And he is fluent in English, correct?” the medic asks.
“Yes. I’ve known him for three years, he definitely speaks english.”
“Do you know what might have caused his sudden memory loss?”
“All I know is last night, he told me he was going to a party and then this morning, I found him walking backwards out of his house and he was like this.”
“Thank you sir,” the medic returns her attention to Jeremy. “Jeremy?” the medic says, looking straight into his eyes. Jeremy reacts slightly, recognizing that that word is referring to him. “Jeremy, can you tell me anything about what happened last night?”
He continued his blank stare, not understanding the words that left her mouth. His stomach began to rumble, it startled Jeremy. It rumbled again but louder. Dave and the medic watched as he clenched his stomach.
“Are you hungry Jeremy? Would you like some food?” the medic asks.
“Food?” Jeremy questions.
The medic goes to the ambulance and pulls out some sort of protein bar. She opens it and shows it to him. “Food, you eat it,” she says as she breaks a piece off and places it in her mouth.
Jeremy grabs the bar and places a piece in his mouth as well, mimicking the medic. The medic begins to slowly chew and swallow as Jeremy follows her actions. Getting the idea he finishes the protein bar, and the uncomfortable feeling in his stomach disappears.
The medic looks at Dave, “Sir thank you very much for calling. Given the state of Mr. Paine, I feel it is necessary that we take him to the hospital right away so we can run some tests to try and figure out what is going on.”
“Alright. Will you keep me updated on how he’s doing?”
“Of course sir, what would be the best number for us to contact you at?”
Dave gives the medic his number before she and her partners load Jeremy into the back of the ambulance.
