3/18/22 The Leap

 The Leap

“I can do this,” he says with a deep inhale, looking over the edge of the cliff. He puts away the fear of the rocky ground at the bottom of the ravine as he measures with his eyes how far across the gap is. The solid ground on the other side looks so close, but when it comes to the leap, it seems so much farther.

“I’ve got this.” He prepares for the jump, raising both arms into the air. He takes another deep breath than looks around. No one is there, he wants to do this alone. The only person he is trying to prove something to is himself, why ruin that by having a witness. The fear desperately tries to fight its way back.

“Let’s do this.” He begins to bend his legs and lower his arms behind his back. With his eyes fixed on the target ground, he swings his arms and jumps, thrusting his body forwards. His toes land on the solid earth, but sadly his jump is slightly too short.

“I did it though,” he says as he falls down the deep ravine. He knows this is it for him, but he is still proud of himself, building up the courage and going through with the leap. No one else will understand, but he will.
