3/20/22 An Ocean of Goo

 An Ocean of Goo

Dear Diary,

Today marks 1 year since the ocean turned to goo. That was such a strange day for everyone. I was at the beach that day, watching the waves gently crash against the shore. But then they stopped, like the water had frozen, but it wasn’t ice, it was slime. I watched as the people trudged their way out of the thick gooey mass that the water had become. The slime didn’t stick to them much, it was all one giant, semi-solid mass.

Everyone at the beach stood up and went to the shoreline and poked and prodded at the goo. Then the sound of horns began blasting through the air. We looked farther out and saw boats, blaring their horns, now stuck in the slimy mess.

The next few days the news was filled with theories of how the water turned to slime, saving people stuck at sea, and what scientists were trying to do to turn the slime back to water. There were also reports of the seafood industry being wiped out. All ocean life was presumed to be dead and still is to this day.

Water has become scarce. The entire water cycle has been disrupted, we have not seen rain in months. The only water left is in ponds and lakes and rivers, cut off from the main ocean. More and more people began to drill holes in the ground, looking for hidden underground wells.

With our beautiful blue oceans gone, we are left with the largest mass of clear goo filling our ocean beds. Life has changed, maybe one day the water will return, but for now we manage, and we continue to survive for as long as we can.

The End
