Big Pond, Little Girl
Everyday the little would walk around the woods surrounding the big pond. Out there it was so quiet, the only sounds were those of her footsteps and the occasional animal’s call. It was so serene, so peaceful, like it wasn’t even real. ‘How can it be this quiet?’ the little girl would often think to herself.
Her path through the woods was always the same but everyday she would find something new. A new bush would blossom with flowers, rain would leave a new puddle in the dirt, a new pile of leaves would form. Although the same walk, the little girl never grew tired of it.
One day while she was walking it began to lightly rain. The silence remained as the tiny raindrops made the pond sparkle as they splashed down, creating millions of tiny ripples throughout the water. The little girl never ran or tried to hide from the rain, the tall evergreens blocked most of the rain and the little that did fall onto her didn't bother her. She would never let the rain ruin her walks around the big pond.
Her favorite place along her walk was a small divot in the ground, filled with water and little green plants growing underneath. The water was so clear and the bright green plants made it look so magical. Their long wispy stems with round bulbs on top made it look like an underwater forest. She would always stop and stare at the little pond in the ground.
The little girl’s walk around the big pond was always her favorite part of the day; a whole hour with just her and the serenity of nature.
