7/30/22 The Snake Den

 The Snake Den

I sit on the beach, my day ruined by a storm. Lightning strikes with roaring thunder following. My food is now soaked and inedible. This day couldn't have gone worse. Through my anger I decide I will find a way to make this trip enjoyable or exciting in some way.

I quickly pack up my things neatly into a bag and head off, looking for my adventure. Nearby, etched in the sand are strange footprints, leading off into the wilderness. I had never seen prints like these before.

Passing by a cliff side, I see the tracks end at a cave. It is dark, but I am determined to find out what made the strange tracks in the sand. I cautiously enter the cave, where I hear a faint hissing noise. I pull out my flashlight and shine it on the back of the cave.

The sight shocks me for a moment, as it is so bizarre. At least a dozen snakes are swarming over a turtle, who sits there, helpless and unable to escape. As much as the sight saddens me, I am not willing to risk being the next victim of the snakes. I leave much quicker than when I came in, thankfully not gaining the interest of the snakes.

As I walk back out towards my car I notice a gorgeous orange flower. I gently grab it by the steam and pull it from the ground. ‘At least something good came from this trip,’ I think to myself.
