Coma (Part 3)
She screamed as another tree almost crushed her. More puddles had popped up as she ran, some she dodged and others required her to leap over them. There were a few close calls but she made it, along with her fox friend. Ahead of her he swiveled through the falling trees and randomly appearing puddles.
The danger only seemed to grow, at first just starting out with a few trees here or there, but now it was everywhere, every second, no part of the path was safe. Although her little fox friend continued on the path, she thought the obvious solution would be to go into the woods, away from the danger.
Guilt struck her, she knew the fox wouldn’t want her to leave the path but she saw no other way. She dodged one last falling tree then hopped into the woods. The noise stopped, there was no danger, it was dark but calm. As she ran from the cursed path, she could hear the fox crying out, it was hurt that she had left.
‘It will be fine,’ she thought to herself, ‘this is all just a dream right?’ She slowed her pace and her heart began beating normally. Looking around, all she could see was faint outlines of trees all around her. It was so quiet. After a time walking through the forest, she missed the noise, she missed her foxy companion.
A new fear started to build in her gut, the fear of being alone in an unknown area. At least on the path she had the fox who made her feel some sort of security, out here she was alone, wandering, not knowing where to go.
She stood still and looked around, realizing in her panic she got turned around. She had no idea which way she had come from, or how to get back to the path. “This was a mistake,” she said to herself. Taking her best guess she picked a direction and began walking, hoping she would find her way back.
