 Diamonds in the Stone (Part 3)

“What kind of deal?” Mr. Davies asks cautiously.

“You do intend to sell the diamonds once they are removed from the stone right?” Rena presumes.

“Ugh, well yes, I do,” Mr. Davies responds, a little embarrassed by his greed.

“Well then I wan’t a cut of the money. I am after all the one getting you the diamonds.”

“Those diamonds are property of the museum and all funds raised by them should go 

directly to me! To be used for the benefit of the museum of course.”

“I promise you will still get a fair share of the money. I am not an unkind woman, I have morals, but in this case I am breaking them slightly for my own benefit.”

“Alright,” Mr. Davies days in defeat, “How much do you want?”

“Well that depends, how much are all these diamonds worth?”

“Let me call in an appraiser and we will find out. Please come with me to my office.”

Rena follows Mr. Davies to his office and sits down in a chair by the door. Mr. Davies grabs his phone and calls for an appraiser. “He will be here in fifteen minutes,” he tells Rena.

The short time passes and the diamond appraiser arrives. “Hello my name is Grayson,” he introduces himself to Rena. “If I could see one of the diamonds, I can give you and Mr. Davies on how much they are worth.”

Rena carefully pulls out one singular diamond from the stone and hands it to Grayson. He examines it closely with his magnifying tool, and other measuring instruments. “Amazing,” he says quietly to himself. “Well, you have some remarkable diamonds here in that stone,” Grayson says, handing the diamond back to Rena who places it back in the stone. “I’d say you could get at least ten grand per diamond, maybe even more.” Rena and Mr. Davies' eyes both light up, “Do you know how many diamonds you have in there?”

“Three hundred and ninety four,” Rena says confidently, although unsure of how she knows.

“Wow, almost four hundred of those would get you around four million, probably even five or six seeing how rare these diamonds are,” Grayson explains.

“Thank you very much Grayson,” Mr. Davies says.

“Of course. I have to say this is one of the more fascinating assessments I’ve ever done. You all have a good day now,” Grayson says with a wave as he leaves the office.

“I want a million,” Rena says quickly.

“A MILLION!?” Mr. Davies spouts.

7/24/22 Wiggly Fingers

Wiggly Fingers “Wiggly fingers, wiggly fingers, oh why won’t my fingers stop wiggling?” she breathed out. Her muscles had little minds of their own and were sending her fingers into overdrive. Wiggling back and forth, like typing on a thousand little keys in the air, her fingers would not stop. “Why won’t they stop,” she anxiously asked herself. From tapping on walls, to tables, to nothing, her fingers just kept going. Sometimes bending, sometimes straight, they couldn’t decide. Tight but still moving, curling in rhythmic ways, her hands were out of control. “Is panic causing my fingers to wiggle, or are the wiggling fingers causing the panic?” she wondered aloud. She paced around, her fingers still going. She couldn’t hold still, her moving fingers made her restless, and now her whole body wanted to be on the move. 2/27/22 Wasted Confidence

  Wasted Confidence “Hey! Leave him alone!” you shout down the street. You begin to walk faster, as you watch a poor man getting beat up by three men in dark hoodies. You run up to one of the hooded men and pry him away from the man laying on the ground. “Walk on, this ain’t none of your business,” the man says, shoving you away. “You are beating up an innocent man, I’m not just going to ignore that, so yes, it is my business,” you reply confidently. The men pause their torture of the man on the ground and begin to surround you. “I said, walk on.” You pull out a small pistol that you carry around at all times, “And I said, leave him alone.” The men back away as you point your gun towards them. You slowly walk towards the man on the ground and help him up, keeping your gun aimed at the hooded men. You sling the wounded man’s arm around your shoulder and begin backing away.
