7/30/22 The Snake Den

The Snake Den I sit on the beach, my day ruined by a storm. Lightning strikes with roaring thunder following. My food is now soaked and inedible. This day couldn't have gone worse. Through my anger I decide I will find a way to make this trip enjoyable or exciting in some way.  I quickly pack up my things neatly into a bag and head off, looking for my adventure. Nearby, etched in the sand are strange footprints, leading off into the wilderness. I had never seen prints like these before. Passing by a cliff side, I see the tracks end at a cave. It is dark, but I am determined to find out what made the strange tracks in the sand. I cautiously enter the cave, where I hear a faint hissing noise. I pull out my flashlight and shine it on the back of the cave. The sight shocks me for a moment, as it is so bizarre. At least a dozen snakes are swarming over a turtle, who sits there, helpless and unable to escape. As much as the sight saddens me, I am not willing to risk being ...

7/29/22 Two Kings

Two Kings Two chairs sat together, bound by the armrest. Great thrones they are, solid stone coated in purple velvet. The kings, whose faces were hidden by their full body cloaks, sat in their thrones, neither one touching the shared armrest, while their other hands rested comfortably on their own armrest. They were both kings of the same land, sharing the power equally, ensuring war would never happen between the two. To touch the middle armrest would signify one having more power over the other, which is something they would never do.  The land has survived for centuries with this joint kinghood. Having leader talk to leader, being able to help each other, while sharing the same level of authority, the kings worked in unison and the land thrived for it. Whenever a new pair of kings needed to be chosen, the process was long. To find two people, willing to work in such unison and who would not abuse their power over the other, it was nearly impossible. Managed by the curre...

7/27/22 Delicious

Delicious Two friends stand side by side in an art museum, admiring a very colorful painting hanging on the wall in front of them. “That just looks delicious.” “Delicious? That’s an interesting way to describe art. You think that if the painting had a taste, it would be a good one?” “No like, I could just eat it up with my eyeballs.” “Oh so, it looks so good that you’d want to stare at it all day, like snacking on your favorite snack?” “No,” they say in a very serious tone. One of their eyeballs then starts to enlarge and pop out of their head. Still attached by all the muscles, the large eye moves towards the painting. From the middle of the pupil a crack begins to form which then turns into a mouth spanning across the whole eye. The mouth opens and devours the painting on the wall. Once the painting has been fully swallowed, the eye begins to shrink back to its normal size before returning to the eye socket, as if nothing had ever happened. “What the-” The End 7/27/...

7/26/22 Floating

Floating He floats. Chest raised, arms back. Towards the heavens he goes, through the sky. He is motionless, doing nothing but breathing. What else can he do? As his body floats calmly upwards involuntarily, all he can do is relax and try to enjoy the ride. The journey upwards is slow, causing only a slight breeze against his face. The cold is what hits him more as he ascends. His muscles shiver, trying to stay warm, but he knows it is useless. His accent can only end in one place, the vastness of space. He knows the horrors of dying in space, but there is nothing he can do. When the floating started, he tried to make it stop, pointing himself towards the ground, squirming around to try and break out of the invisible grip pulling him upwards. It was all useless, and as he got higher and higher he accepted his fate and began to relax. Now he just lays there, letting whatever this is take him to the heavens. A part of him always wanted to go to space, but not like this. This ...

7/25/22 Porcelain People

Porcelain People The porcelain people live a very careful life. A world of softness, almost impossible to be broken by the world around them. The only danger they have is themselves. If one were to bump into the other, or purposefully smash another, the break would be swift. When they are alone they are safe, living carefree in their world of pillow-like materials. It is only when they are around others when danger arises. Any contact with another porcelain person is handled with the utmost delicacy, as not to damage the other.  Being around those they trust is important for the porcelain people. They never know when they could end up alone with someone who has the worst of intentions. Whether to be smashed directly with a fist or with another solid object, the experience is horrible, the only form of death the porcelain people have.  However, it is the only way new life is found. From the pieces of the smashed porcelain people, new life is formed. A special divis...

7/24/22 Wiggly Fingers

Wiggly Fingers “Wiggly fingers, wiggly fingers, oh why won’t my fingers stop wiggling?” she breathed out. Her muscles had little minds of their own and were sending her fingers into overdrive. Wiggling back and forth, like typing on a thousand little keys in the air, her fingers would not stop. “Why won’t they stop,” she anxiously asked herself. From tapping on walls, to tables, to nothing, her fingers just kept going. Sometimes bending, sometimes straight, they couldn’t decide. Tight but still moving, curling in rhythmic ways, her hands were out of control. “Is panic causing my fingers to wiggle, or are the wiggling fingers causing the panic?” she wondered aloud. She paced around, her fingers still going. She couldn’t hold still, her moving fingers made her restless, and now her whole body wanted to be on the move. She had more control of the rest of herself, but her fingers were still off like lightning. “STOP!” she yelled, pressing her hands flat against a wall. No tapping occ...

7/23/22 Survival

Survival *BANG* Another victim down, their life gone so she could live on. She didn’t like living this way, crawling around the streets, robbing people to survive, killing them when necessary.  Her life wasn’t always like this. She used to be a normal, average citizen of society. She lived in a little apartment in the city, worked an office job 9-5, not many friends, not real close with any of them, but enough to not be lonely. One day, her nice, calm little life all changed. For seemingly no reason, she was let go from her job, just like that, with no warning whatsoever.  A few months later, and no new jobs would take her. Stained by the unfair reputation of her previous employer, she was not able to find a job.  Her money quickly dwindled, and when rent came due and she couldn’t pay, she was kicked to the streets with nowhere to go. She asked her “friends” but no one would take her. She was scared and alone, like an abandoned child on the streets. She had never e...

7/22/22 Blank Page

Blank Page Nope, nothing to see here. I’m just a blank empty page, no letters or words whatsoever. You can keep looking but there won’t be any words, I promise. Oh you think you see words? You think you are reading words right now? Ha, no, you are mistaken, this is just a blank page. No, I already told you, I am a blank page, I don’t have any words, I don’t even really exist. I am the most boring document there ever was. Why are you even here still? There is nothing to look at. Unless you like to look at nothing than please, be my guest and stick around, but if you came here looking for something, you will not be finding it. What do you mean, “You are sure there are words here,” I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about.  Ugh, I have had enough of this nonsense. No matter how I try to tell you, you just don’t understand. There, is, nothing, on, this, page! Fine, fine, think what you will, but it doesn’t change reality. Now keep moving on please, maybe come ba...

7/21/22 How I Miss Those Old Blue Skies

How I Miss Those Old Blue Skies Nothing had been the same since that day, when the whole world collectively discovered, they could change the color of the sky. Complete and utter chaos is all that occurred that day. Somewhere, somehow, one man looked to the sky and thought of a color, and all of a sudden the sky changed to that color. He got confused and tried again with another color, and another color the sky changed. Being excited and curious, he of course told his friend, who told another friend, then the message spread to the internet as the world was freaking out about the sky changing colors. From that one man’s post, everyone found out how to do it, and the sky went mad. Rapidly it flashed a whole array of every color imaginable. Billions of people all at once, thinking of colors to change the sky. It was like a broken monitor, flashing back and forth between colors, so fast you could barely tell one color from the other. Some people just sat and stared for hours an...

7/20/22 Just Walk Away

Just Walk Away “You promised you would send me back!” Lizelle angrily yelled, “You said I would only be here for a little while, what happened to that!?” “Oh my dear Lizelle,” Nash said, in a soft tone, “It was meant to be that way but…” “But what?” Lizelle grunted through clasped teeth. “You are just so good up here. I have plenty of workers who can do the job down below, but so few thrive as you do up here.” “Thrive? You think I’m thriving up here?!” she said, her voice getting louder with each word. “I may be doing the work well, but I am far from thriving. I liked my work down below, I was happy there, but now…” “Oh Lizelle, don’t be so harsh,” Nash pouts his lower lip, “I want my workers to be efficient, I want strong people to be where they are needed, and that is you, up here.” Lizelle calms down and lets out a disgusted chuckle, “You never meant to send me back down did you? You wanted me up here all along.” Nash shakes his head, “No, I wanted you down below at ...

7/19/22 Light Show of the Heavens

Light Show of the Heavens As the sun set, the sky was half pink and half dark. A starry night sky quickly drowned out the orangy pink light of the sun. Meteor showers filled the sky that night, drawing sharp lines across the black canvas. Stars shone bright in the pitch midnight black. Galaxies so far away seemed as close as the moon.  It was beautiful, although the sun’s light was gone, the main source, the night sky still dazzled with lights of its own, with the moon acting as a centerpiece, tying the whole image together. Dark on the surface but light in the sky, the night brings a beauty all of its own, the light show of the heavens.  The End 7/19/22

7/18/22 Tiny Guy

Tiny Guy Excited to hang out with his best friend after school, Daniel walks up some stairs and heads into Garret’s room. As he enters he stops in the doorway, seeing Garret apparently talking to his bed. “Hey Garret, who are you talking to,” Daniel asks, a bit weirded out. “Come here, come here,” Garret responds in a hushed voice, motioning Daniel to join him on the bed. Garret grabs something then lifts it up to show Daniel. Daniel looks and sees what looks to be a small figurine, with normal human proportions but about the size of a toothpick. “Hello,” the small man in Garret’s hand says. Daniel is shocked, “What the heck!?” “Calm down Daniel, this is Jacob, and yes he is real.” Daniel struggles to process what is going on, but manages to control himself enough to be civil with the tiny man in his best friend’s hand. “Why is he so small?” Daniel asks, too confused to be polite. Garret looks at Jacob, “Do you want to tell him or should I?” “I’ll tell him,” Jac...

7/17/22 The Mark

The Mark A random mark appeared on her arm. It was dark but not a bruise, when she poked it there was no pain. She tried to rub it off, rinse it with soap and water to make it disappear, but it stayed. Nothing she did made it go away. She tried to conceal it with her makeup but it did nothing. For a moment the mark would be gone, but slowly it would seep through the many layers of makeup, reappearing as a dark splotch.  If she couldn’t hide it, or wash it off, her next idea was to wait and hope it would fade on its own. She went to bed, hoping to wake up in the morning with a stainless arm. When she woke up, the mark had not gone away, but grown. It now covered most of her right arm, leaving a few patches of her natural skin color. As she blinked her eyes open, she watched as the splotch slowly spread, covering the last few patches of skin on her arm. Quickly she dashed to a mirror and searched the rest of her body. Everywhere else was fine, but from her right shoulder d...

7/16/22 Mouth of the Earth

Mouth of the Earth He was just standing there, unaware of the hidden threat beneath. To him, he was just standing in a field, trying to capture the beauty of nature with his camera, but the ground had other plans for him. Out of nowhere, a crack rapidly formed in the ground below one of his legs. His leg fell through and he was brought to an awkward sitting position, with one leg trapped in the ground, the other fully bent. Shock struck him hard. In a panic, he immediately tried to pull his leg up and out of the ground, but the earth wouldn’t let go. The crack was trying to close, like a mouth biting down on his leg. Using his arms, he pulled his upper thigh, trying to wedge his leg up and out to freedom. Ditching his shoe in the crevasse, he managed to pull his leg up and slide his foot out of the crack. As quickly as the ground had opened it shut again, failing to pull the man all the way under. The man made a mad dash for his car, his camera jangling around his neck. He ...
